“-an artist whose grasp on sensitive storytelling is impeccable.”
Benjamin Trillado is a queer Filipino-Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne who writes songs for anyone who’s ever cried on public transport or made a major life decision based on a gut feeling and a tarot reading. His music blends heartfelt storytelling with lyrics that make you go, “Ouch… but also, same.”
Born and raised in Melbourne’s western suburbs (shoutout to Sunshine Plaza), Benjamin discovered his love for music after a flyer for guitar lessons was handed out in primary school. That flyer led to a life of emotional voice memos, awkward school performances, and gigs in tiny local cafés.
These days, Benjamin has performed on some of Melbourne’s most iconic stages and worked alongside Australian music royalty like Boy & Bear, Sarah Blasko, Ben Abraham, and The Dreggs, solidifying his place as a beloved figure in the local music scene. His songwriting has also reached audiences around the world with his debut single Glue, which started off as a university project, has now racked up over 700,000 streams on Spotify.
Benjamin’s latest single Moving is, in his words, what a 2000s coming-of-age movie would sound like as a song. It follows a boy stuck in a small town, terrified of who he’ll become if he never leaves. It’s a fictional lens on a universal truth: sometimes any change is better than none. With his upcoming live shows, Benjamin is proving he’s far more than just “a guy and a guitar”, and he’s bringing some old friends along for the ride.
